David Stevens, former president of Long & Foster Cos., a real estate brokerage in Chantilly, Va., is the likely candidate to head the Federal Housing Administration.

HUD refused to comment, but the appointment by the Obama Administration was reported Sunday in the Washington Post.

Before joining Long & Foster, which has a large share of the Washington, D.C., real estate market, Stevens was executive vice president and national wholesale manager for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. He also has been a senior vice president for Freddie Mac, heading the single-family mortgage business.
