Popular Boathouse Restaurant Burns to the Ground Last Night

James Island, SC (WCSC)- Officials are investigating the early morning fire that destroyed the Boat House restaurant on Harbor View Road on James Island.

The James Island Fire Department received a call around 1am Thursday morning that the popular Lowcountry restaurant was on fire.

When responders arrived on the scene, they said flames were shooting as high as 40ft in the air. According to Chief Glick, he could see the flames as far away as Folly Road.

Investigators are trying to determine where the fire may have started in the restaurant.

No injuries have been reported and no one was in the buidling at the time of the fire.

Fire firefighters do not believe the fire was started by an arsonsist, according to Chief Glick.

The Boat House opened at its current location less than a month ago, and according to the restaurant’s Community Director Batt Humphreys business had been doing well.

25 employees worked at the restaurant and Humphreys said they’re trying to figure out what to do next.
